NZTA brings in technical changes

A catalogue of changes to vehicle inspection and compliance rules, due April 1 but delayed a month by COVID-19, has now come into force.

The latest update to the Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manuals – better known as the VIRM – was largely delayed until such time that alert level restrictions were eased. In a statement the NZ Transport Agency says that with that ease arriving as part of level 3, the amendment is now live and in effect.

In addition to the originally planned changes, the use of certain isolation shields has also been added to the permitted modification tables in the VIRM: In-service certification (WoF and CoF), provided they meet certain conditions.

Other tweaks include changes to pre-delivery inspection descriptions, specifications around fifth-wheel trailer hitches, and the inclusion of Euro 6 in emissions tables.
