Northland truck drivers are being encouraged to recharge and refresh as part of a rest zone initiative set up by NZI’s fleet risk crew.
NZI has teamed up with the National Road Carriers Association and Northland Regional Council to help heavy vehicle fleet drivers stay safe on the road, holding a truckie rest zone event in Uretiti.
Fatigue is a major cause of road accidents, and the team are supporting truckies get a break before the next leg of their journey with complimentary hot food off the BBQ, barista coffees and fresh fruit, among other healthy snacks.
Truckies heading south along SH1 past Uretiti on Wednesday September 27, can pull their rig into the NZI Truckie Rest Zoneat the rest area for a bite to eat, a quick health check, and chat to the team along with some of NZI’s Fleet Fit experts about managing driving fatigue.
The NZI Truckie Rest Zones, which are part of NZI’s Fleet Fit initiative to support and improve fleet safety in Aotearoa New Zealand, are run by NZI’s Community Risk Advocate and Fleet Risk Management team.

The events are also run in partnership with the NZ Police Commercial Vehicle Safety Team, St John, Waka Kotahi, and road safety coordinators from local councils.
“These events give truck drivers the opportunity to learn more about the issue of fatigue from professionals who want to make sure all truckies get home safely to their whānau,” NZI executive general manager Garry Taylor says.
