Screen-Shot-2015-07-16-at-9.412A Manawatu woman is one step closer to driving her partner’s new Hino heavy duty 700 series 8×4 deck tipper, thanks to entering a national ˜win a truck drivers licence’ competition run by the brand.

Caroline Haack entered the competition at Hino’s National Fieldays’ site in June, and won one of the truck licence packages on offer.

The prize, valued at $1000, includes logbooks (unit standard), theory, practical training and assessment with AMS Group. It gives the winners the opportunity to gain a class 2 licence, and the competition entry form asks for the reason why entrants wish to do so.

My partner Vaughn has just bought a new Hino and I want to drive it too, Haack wrote on her winning entry form.

Glenara Partnership, run by Vaughn Shannon and his brother Bruce, operate sheep and beef farms in the Kiwitea and Kimbolton areas, just outside of Feilding.

The Shannon’s FY2945 Hino replaces a 1976 T Line International. It includes a deck tipper, which will be used for carting stock between the two farms.

I’m really looking forward to upgrading from the farm motorbike, says Haack.

To date her limited truck driving experience includes negotiating the column stick on a light-duty 1976 Volvo when she worked for Cummins a number of years ago.

We’re so excited that Caroline was drawn as the winner, and with only 4% of truck drivers being female, we’re even more excited that we’re helping break down stereotypes, says Hino Distributors general manager Ray Roberts.
