Transport company Move Logistics Group has appointed two industry executives to lead new sector-specific strategies targeting dairy and coastal shipping.

Scott Crampton will lead the firm’s dairy operations while Dale Slade will head up the oceans team.

The company says the sectors offer “significant value and the opportunity to grow market share through the delivery of an end to end supply chain solution”.

Both Crampton and Slade will work closely with Move’s freight and contract logistics divisions to meet customers’ specific freight and logistics needs.

Crampton has been in logistics for the past 20 years, with the last 15 years at Hilton Haulage with the majority of this as chief executive. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in business growth, building high performing teams and providing end-to-end logistics solutions to a great array of export clients throughout New Zealand and Australia.

Move says the new role will provide more focus on the dairy sector to provide solutions in a “very challenging and changeable supply chain environment”.

“With only a small number of providers offering an end-to-end supply chain service to this sector, Move is well positioned to provide a strong offer, building tailored solutions around clients by utilising its national, multi-modal freight network, fleet diversity, warehousing capacity, and export capability to integrate with their supply chain requirements,” the company says.

Dale Slade, general manager oceans

Slade takes over the oceans role from Marty Byrne. He has been working for Move for the past two years and has been extensively involved in the development of the new oceans service offering.

The company has recently been awarded $10 million in co-funding from Waka Kotahi to support its coastal shipping strategy and Slade’s immediate focus will be on the acquisition, refitting and mobilisation of a quarter-ramp roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel which will enable a new sea bridge between Nelson and New Plymouth.

Move has been involved in the shipping industry through its shipping agency, Hooker Shipping in New Plymouth, which was founded in 1883.

Prior to Move, Slade lived and worked in Papua New Guinea for a number of years as commercial line manager for a shipping company.

Move executive director Chris Dunphy, commenting on the new appointments, said: “Scott’s appointment, as with other recent hires, adds to Move’s brains-trust. We now have a diverse group of talent that can greatly accelerate our growth plans as well as ensuring our executive resource is well-spread nationally. Dale is a great example of the leadership strength within our business and his appointment reflects our focus creating opportunities for valued team members.”
