An industrial South Auckland site which is home to a major freight company and a former motor assembly plant is up for sale.
More than two hectares of land on the corner of Fort Richard Rd and Great South Rd, Otahuhu is being marketed as a residential redevelopment opportunity.
Transport company Carr & Haslam has occupied a large section of the site for over 30 years.
The property also contains industrial buildings originally developed in the late 1950s as a car assembly plant owned by Motor Holdings.
Volkswagens were the first cars to be assembled at the site followed by a wide range of other vehicles.
The plant closed after tariff protection was removed in the 1980s and distributors found it cheaper to import fully assembled cars.
Bayleys commercial agent Mark Pittaway says the “massive site is ideally located for residential development”.
It has mixed use zoning under the Unitary Plan allowing for buildings up to 18 metres high.
The site is up for tender which closes on December 11.
