Mindless vandalism will cost dealer thousands

Two men will appear in the Nelson district court today on charges of wilful damage after allegedly mindlessly vandalising vehicles in a Ford dealership by “body slamming” onto their bonnets.

The damage to the bonnets of five vehicles was discovered by dealership staff on Saturday morning says MS Ford dealer principal Alan Kirby.

Kirby told the Nelson Mail that: “Its a major drama.”

“Some creatures came through the yard and body slammed by jumping backwards on to the bonnets.”

Kirby says the cars will have to have time off the yard to be repaired and each represented about a $1000 in damage.

The men were identified by close circuit television.

“We get sporadic damage but not to this extent,” says Kirby. “Thats why we have CCTV.”

Kirby says he believes a group of five people walked through the yard on Friday night with only two responsible for the damage.

“Its just so dumb. It’s just mindless vandalism.”
