For the eighth consecutive year European motorhome and recreational vehicle magazine, ‘Promobil’ has given the Fiat Ducato it’s title of best motorhome base vehicle.

The Ducato was the top vehicle in eight out of the ten categories ranging from camper vans to luxury motor homes.

It won the Camper Van with toilet (category B), Top-cab model up to 50,000 Euro (category C), Top-cab model from 50,000 Euro (category D), Semi-integrated up to 50,000 Euro (category E), Semi-integrated from 50,000 Euro (category F), Integrated up to 70,000 Euro (category G), Integrated from 70,000 Euro (category H) and Best Motorhome Base Vehicle 2015 (category K) categories.

More than 2.6 million Ducato models in five generations have been sold globally around the world in the past 34 years, including more than half a million campervan and motorhome variants.

Fiat says the design of the Ducato meets the needs of motorhome builders around the world because having the drivetrain entirely at the front of the vehicle allowed a low floor line at the rear of the vehicle and a wide range of chassis options to offer maximum design flexibility.

It says the MTA self-shifting gearbox was developed specifically for motorhomes and Fiat used motorhome ‘mule’ evaluation vehicles to test it, while the chassis electronics are programmed to match the load characteristics of motorhomes.
