Transport management technology provider Microlise has secured type-approval from Transport Certification Australia (TCA) for its SmartGateway 14 flagship telematics device, placing the firm among just 15 approved telematics suppliers across Australia and New Zealand.
TCA — the government-appointed body that administers the National Telematics Framework — independently assesses the functional and technical performance of telematics hardware and systems. Devices are tested against specifications reflecting the needs of governments, regulators, industry and end-users, giving transport operators confidence in the reliability, accuracy, integrity and security of approved technology.
Type-approval is granted only after a comprehensive, independent assessment of a provider’s hardware. The designation helps transport organisations identify vetted suppliers, streamlining procurement and strengthening trust at a time when fleets increasingly rely on telematics for business, safety, compliance and management outcomes.
Microlise says the approval is a critical step toward certification so its devices can be used in productivity and safety schemes offered through Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) and the Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA), as well as with Smart On-Board Mass (OBM) systems. The company says it aligns with its ambition to bolster data integrity and service reliability while supporting a broader range of government-linked applications.
The recognition was presented during Microlise’s executive roadshow series, The Road Ahead, where Gavin Hill, Austroads general manager of strategic engagement and performance, formally handed over the certificate.
Microlise APAC managing director Luke Olsen says the approval gives operators an independent benchmark in a crowded market.
“We’re incredibly proud to achieve TCA type-approval. With more than 100 providers of telematics being offered in the crowded Australian and New Zealand market, this recognition helps transport operators make informed choices and reinforces our commitment to supporting safer and more efficient transport across Australia and New Zealand.”
