Daimler Truck’s hydrogen fuel cell Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck has received approval from German authorities for use on public roads.
It follows several thousand kilometres of evaluation on the company’s test track since April this year.
The truck aims to achieve ranges of up to 1000 kilometres and more without any stops for refueling in its series version.
Now testing is expanding to public roads near the town of Rastatt, Germany. The project will also include comparative tests of the purely battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros and fuel-cell trucks from other manufacturers.
Freight will be electrified to test catenary trucks although Daimler Truck says it has no plans for catenary operations.
The first series-produced GenH2 Truck are expected to be handed over to customers starting in 2027.
