Mainstream New Zealand has expanded its national linehaul fleet with the addition of 18 brand new Scania R660 trucks, in what the company describes as a major step forward in its commitment to “sustainability, reliability, and safety”.

The new units are equipped with advanced Euro 6 emissions technology, which the company says will significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

“The move from Euro 1 to Euro 6 standards represents a massive reduction in harmful emissions – with nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduced by over 95% and particulate matter (PM) cut by up to 97%,” the company says.

“This leap in clean engine technology underscores our commitment to a greener, more sustainable freight network.”

Mainstream says the upgraded Scania fleet not only delivers environmental benefits but also boosts efficiency and safety across its nationwide operations. The 18 new trucks will increase daily load capacity by over 35%, joining an existing fleet of more than 30 linehaul vehicles operating across the country.

It says the new units will create “significant efficiencies across the entire network”.

The R660s are designed for long-distance haulage and engineered to provide high uptime and performance under demanding conditions.

“Reliability remains a cornerstone of the Mainstream promise. The Scania R660s are among the most dependable trucks on the road … This upgrade ensures that our freight moves when it should –– on time, every time  ––  with minimal risk of mechanical disruptions,” the company says.

Each unit is also fitted with world-leading safety features, including Guardian driver monitoring cameras to help detect fatigue and distraction — a move aimed at protecting both drivers and other road users.

“Our ongoing investment in driver wellbeing and road safety sees each unit equipped with world leading in-cab safety features… providing another safeguard for our team and helping to protect everyone on the New Zealand roads.”

Mainstream says the investment aligns with its Toitū environmental commitments and internal targets for carbon reduction.
