Mainfreight is a winner once more at this year’s 2012 Deloitte/Management magazine Top 200 Awards, picking up a gong for ‘Best Growth Strategy’ at last night’s awards at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland.

Last year Mainfreight managing director Don Braid took the ‘Executive of the Year’ award – while Mainfreight was judged ‘Company of the Year’.

Braid’s stated aim for Mainfreight “is to be in every trading nation in the world” – and the plans around achieving that were rewarded last night.

Mainfreight has over 5000 employees globally with branches in Australia, China, Europe and the United States.
It is working towards its ‘100 year vision’ – which predicates that all decisions should be taken with a view “that [Mainfreight] will be here for another 100 years.”

Port of Tauranga chief executive Mark Cairns won the ‘Executive of the Year’ title, while Ryman Health Care was judged ‘Company of the Year’.

Cairns led a management team that exceeded expectations and met challenges such as the Rena grounding and responding to diverted containers from Auckland during the industrial stoppages there.

Port chair John Parker says that that this demonstrated Cairns’ “outstanding ability to drive a future-focused strategy while maintaining the day-to-day focus on customer needs.”
