Mainfreight will be opening its largest global facility yet when operations commence at the new 36,000 square metre development in Epping, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

Mainfreight will now operate 27 sites across six states/territories in Australia when the Epping site becomes operational in March.

It joins purpose-built sites in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane as a state-of-the-art transport and logistics centre, catering to the individual needs of many supply chain customers according to Mainfreight managing director Don Braid.

The facility comprises 20,000 square metres of warehousing for the Logistics business, and 16,000 square metres of raised cross-dock (230 metres long) for Mainfreight’s Transport operations, plus office space and training rooms.

The warehouse includes 1,100 pallet spaces of flexible temperature-controlled storage to satisfy the unique requirements of customers in the food and beverage sector.

“Consolidating most of our Melbourne warehouse operations at the new site gives us better control over quality”, says Mainfreight’s Australian business head Rodd Morgan.

“There are also significant benefits for our Transport business, with excellent access to Interstate line-haul corridors,” says Morgan.

Mainfreight will retain its existing operations at Clayton, south-east of the city, and at Geelong in the west, extending its city-wide coverage and intensifying the network of branches across Australia.
