Newman lead Mainfreight Europe, based in the Netherlands, for five years, and prior to that was general manager of the Mainfreight transport division in New Zealand.

His career at the company spanned over 30 years and he played an important role in creating the strong “family” culture that Mainfreight has developed throughout its global operations.

In his last role with Mainfreight, Newman was responsible for over 2000 people in 10 countries, dealing with complex regulatory environments across multiple borders.

Rescue Helicopter Trust chairman Murray Bolton says he is “thrilled to have a CEO Mark’s calibre”.

“The Board believes that Mark’s extensive background with a highly successful New Zealand based global company will be of enormous benefit to the trust.

“Over the next 12 months, we will be moving to our new home at Ardmore, bedding in our merger with the Northland Emergency Services Trust required under our new contract with the Ministry of Health’s National Ambulance Sector Office and bringing our new bigger, faster, safer, more comfortable and more technologically sophisticated AugustaWestland AW169s into service.

“These changes are happening at a time when our helicopters are at their busiest, with summer bringing hundreds of thousands of people outdoors, participating in recreational activities that put extra pressure on our services.

“As he manages the transition into the new era, Mark’s role will include ensuring absolute business-as-usual services for the people of our region needing rescue and help, and maintain our reputation of being at the leading edge of clinical standards for EMS emergency and medical helicopter services in New Zealand in concert with our Northland colleagues,” Bolton says.
