Night roadworks will take place on State Highway 1 through Mana Esplanade between the Paremata roundabout and the Plimmerton roundabout from August 28 to late September, advises the NZ Transport Agency.
Works from Acheron Road to the Plimmerton roundabout will take place from August 28 to mid-September while works at Mana-Paremata will take place from Pascoe Ave to Paremata Bridge from mid-September. Repairs immediately south of the bridge on State Highways 1 and 58 will be done in preparation for works scheduled later in the summer maintenance season.
Crews will work between 7pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday weather permitting. No work will take place though during the day or on Friday or Saturday nights; however utility companies may be working in the area on some days to lay communication fibre under the footpath. This is separate to the agency’s road resurfacing programme.
The work is set to provide a fresh, durable surface for the highway through this area, which is one of the busiest urban roads in Wellington, says the agency’s regional performance manager Mark Owen.
“This is the third – and last – year of major road resurfacing work along Mana Esplanade. These works are also the second year that roadworks are being done at night on this stretch of road and it is thanks to working closely with the local community that this can be done.” He adds that the work is done at this time because travellers affected reduces from several thousand each hour during the day to a few hundred at night and local businesses and activities are also less disrupted.
Updates on progress will be available in the New World Paremata foyer and NZ Postshop on Mana Esplanade, as well as online at www.nzta.govt.nz/wellington-maintenance.
