Another NZ Transport Agency-approved electronic logbook system has joined the market – this time based on an application for iPhone and android devices.
“The application simplifies work time entries by saving driver details, leveraging smartphone GPS and date-time capabilities to enable driver to log a day’s activity at the press of a button,” says Greg McDowell, Logmate founder and managing director.
“Nobody likes paperwork, but for commercial and passenger endorsed drivers the need to comply with the law means they need to track their every movement, says McDowell. “Through the use of our proprietary integrated software, we can now do it for them.
“This enables New Zealand drivers to focus on the important aspects of their job, and know that their records are complete and accurate, encrypted and saved securely in the cloud.”
The application was required to undergo a 6-week trial period in conjunction with the NZTA and the New Zealand Police’s commercial vehicle investigation unit (CVIU).
“The Transport Agency is keen to support solutions that align with the agency’s objective of making it easier for our customers to do the right thing,” says Tony Marlow, technical support at the agency. “Having electronic logbooks makes it easier for drivers and transport companies to comply with the work-time and logbook requirements.”
Carl Hesseltine, a contracted driver who participated in the trial, welcomed the simple and user-friendly design of Logmate.
“Paper log books are the worst part of a lot of commercial driver’s job, it is a time consuming process, having an application that is smart enough to do it for you is brilliant,” Hesseltine says. “Especially when you are stopped by enforcement officers, being able to instantly pass on all your activity makes the whole process so much easier and quicker.”
Logmate also enables logistics companies to manage bookings and workloads more effectively by being able to view activity in a digestible format on demand.
It is suitable for any class 2, 3, 4 and 5 licence holders or those with passenger endorsements.
