A log carrier bound for China has been safely towed in for repair following engine failure leaving the Port of Tauranga.
The Singaporean-registered vessel, Funing, came to a halt on July 6 while heading out with a maritime pilot on board.
Without power it could not steer and the wind and tide caused it to drift, snagging the chains holding a buoy marking the shipping channel.
The tide and current then pushed it to the other side of the channel, where it stopped near the base of Mauao.
Tugs came to its aid, towing it to deeper water and safe anchorage where it remained for over a week.
Maritime NZ confirmed on Tuesday the Funing had safely reached Port of Tauranga for repairs.
Dive inspections identified damage to the propeller and rudder and Maritime NZ says investigation into the incident is ongoing. There we no reports of oil or other pollution leaking from the vessel.
The investigation is expected to take up to 14 days before the Funing is able to continue its voyage to China. All 20 crew will remain on board.
