Toyota is aiming for a five-star ANCAP rating for its workhorse LandCruiser 70 Series.
“In the second half of 2016 we will be releasing an upgraded Land Cruiser 70 Series featuring improved safety specifications to comply with New Zealand regulations,” says Toyota New Zealand product general manager Spencer Morris.
“The adoption of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), and more airbags are also expected to achieve 5 star ANCAP status in the single cab variants. Further details will be released closer to vehicle launch,” says Morris. The LandCruiser will get a host of safety improvements to deliver the five-star result.
The upgrades will arrive in the second half of 2016 and will be equipped across the whole range.
Single cab models will get five more airbags with the update, two front seat side and curtain-shield, and one driver’s knee.
Driver and front seat passenger airbags were made standard in LandCruiser 70 in 2009, with ABS added in 2012.
