Land Rover took Lions players for an off-road spin in its new Discovery.

It was not only a chance for some of the squad to get behind the wheel in Rotorua’s hills on Off Road New Zealand’s track network, but to see some country as well.

A principal partner of The British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand 2017, Land Rover gave players like James Haskell, Jonathan Joseph, Rory Best, Tommy Seymour and Rhys Webb some time away from training and matches.

Land Rover ambassador James Haskell relished the chance to test his skills on New Zealand’s terrain. “Whenever you play against the New Zealand teams you have to keep your wits about you and stay focussed,” he says. “The same is true with the off-road driving the players and I took part in. There were plenty of exciting moments during the off-road driving but there were also plenty of challenging parts to it.

“The tracks we got to explore with Land Rover kept the players focussed on the challenge at hand, which is certainly something we will be taking into the next matches. The upcoming rugby games are going to take every ounce of concentration, and to get to hone this skill away from the training field has been really useful.”

The Discovery has been providing logistical support for the team’s tour.

It’s the seventh time New Zealand Land Rover’s supported the Lions during their visits.
