Kiwi truck driver Louise Marriott was the woman behind the wheel of Volvo Trucks latest global feature campaign “The Flying Passenger” released on its YouTube channel this week.
At the wheel of a new 540 horsepower FH 16 Volvo Truck and trailer combination, Marriott was responsible for ensuring that professional paraglider Gulliame Galvani had a smooth transition from ground to air and back again during the filming of the Volvo Truck’s YouTube product videos in Croatia.
The camaraderie between driver and paraglider became quickly evident in the YouTube film clips.
“It’s gonna look hard case (in the rear view mirror) having a paraglider attached to my truck,” says Marriott to the videographer.
Marriott is the first female and the first Kiwi to star in a Volvo Global feature product campaign which highlights the benefits of the new Volvo Dual Clutch I-Shift transmission.
“While not yet available for the NZ market, the dual clutch transmission will in time offer our customers an exceptional driving and economy benefit, particularly due to our unique terrain,” says Volvo Trucks New Zealand national sales manager Clive Jones.
Marriott works as a full-time driver for JPM Transport in Christchurch where she has driven the Christchurch-Picton route for the last five years.
“Louise is an exceptional driver and was hand-picked by Volvo Trucks because of her performance during the Asia Pacific Driver Fuel Challenge held in Thailand in 2015 where she won the competition, well surpassing all of the other drivers who competed,” says Jones.
“Our Kiwi involvement in this campaign has been of tremendous value our NZ business, recognising we are a small but progressive and proactive partner with Volvo globally,” he says.
