Teams from both sides of the Tasman went head to head in Mercedes-Benz Vans’ Hack My Van contest, with a group of Kiwis coming out on top.
The MindKits team finished ahead of the five other finalists, with their prize – a new Vito van – a huge part of the plan to deliver hands-on STEM learning experiences to schools around New Zealand.
STEM education is an approach which sees academic concepts mixed with real-world lessons.

“Winning the Vito enables us to take our proven engaging STEM workshops and bring
them to schools with fewer resources, independent of their wealth and status,” co-founders Tim Carr and Fay Cobbett say.
“For the business this opens a new chapter and an expanding market, with thanks to Mercedes-Benz Vans.”
Managing director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia & New Zealand Diane Tarr says the event was created because the Vito can be transformative for a small business.
“Congratulations to Tim and Fay from MindKits who are already providing such a valuable service to school children in New Zealand by delivering hands-on STEM learning experiences.
“We cannot wait to see them achieve their dreams of taking their workshops on the road to more kids and more schools.”
The first runner up, HME Limited’s ThunderPods, receive a $5000 cash grant, and the second runner up, Ruby & Ollie’s Big Days Out, receive a $2500 cash grant provided by RedZed Lending Solutions.
