Kinetic New Zealand has been recognised as one of the country’s top employers for the second consecutive year, earning a HRD 5-star Employer of Choice award.
The annual awards recognise organisations leading in employee engagement, workplace culture and people practices, with Kinetic the only bus operator in New Zealand to receive the honour.
Managing director Calum Haslop says the recognition reflects ongoing improvements across the business.
“To be recognised for a second year shows the momentum we’re building as a business. Over the past year, we’ve continued to strengthen the experience we offer our people, and it’s great to see that reflected in how they feel about working at Kinetic,” Haslop says.
Kinetic, which employs more than 4,000 people nationwide, says it has continued to invest in leadership development, communication tools and employee engagement, with improved survey participation and results over the past year.

Director of people, culture and safety Nicky Harrison says the company has focused on responding to employee feedback.
“We are always looking at ways we can better support our people across the country,” Harrison says.
“Over the past year, that’s included strengthening development pathways, improving how we communicate across the business, and responding to employee feedback to shape a better workplace experience.”
The company also highlighted its “Women Up Front – Trainee Bus Driver” programme, which has seen 143 women join as drivers in the past year, with many progressing into mentoring and leadership roles.
“It’s been great to see how quickly many of these women are progressing and building long-term careers with Kinetic,” Harrison says.
Kinetic has also invested in training initiatives, including leadership programmes and its digital Learning Hub, while achieving Rainbow Tick accreditation to support a more inclusive workplace.
Beyond its workforce initiatives, the company launched its Moving Communities Fund in New Zealand, supporting grassroots organisations in the communities it serves.
The HRD 5-Star Employers of Choice awards are based on employee feedback, independent analysis and industry review, recognising organisations that create inclusive and engaging workplaces.
