Mass transit operator Kinetic has launched a cadetship programme aimed at developing the next generation of leaders across its operations in Australia and New Zealand.
The 2026 intake will see cadets join the company in both countries, rotating through key areas of the business including operations, planning and leadership functions.
Participants will receive training, mentorship and practical experience across different parts of the organisation, with a pathway to a permanent role on completion of the programme.
Kinetic Group chief executive Michael Sewards says the initiative reflects the company’s focus on developing talent from within.
“We’re creating clear career pathways that give motivated individuals the skills, confidence and operational knowledge to become our future leaders,” Sewards says.
“This is about developing talent the Kinetic way – with real experience across every part of our operation.”
In Australia, two cadetship positions are available, including a role in the planning team on the Gold Coast and another in Melbourne as part of the company’s operations leadership pathway.
The inaugural Australian intake will target women applicants as part of efforts to address the underrepresentation of women in transport leadership roles.
Kinetic executive general manager – people and safety (Australia) Madonna Hegerty says the programme is intended to build a more diverse leadership pipeline.
“Women remain underrepresented in leadership roles across the transport industry, and we’re determined to change that,” Hegerty says.
“This program gives women the opportunity to develop the skills and experience they need to step into senior operational roles.”
In New Zealand, two cadetship roles will be available across Kinetic’s urban and regional operations, with a focus on developing future operational leaders.
Director – people, culture and safety (New Zealand) Nicky Harrison says the programme aims to strengthen leadership capability across the company’s New Zealand operations.
“This program is about building our future leaders here in New Zealand,” Harrison says.
“By providing structured development and real operational experience, we’re creating clear pathways for talented people to step into leadership roles across our New Zealand operations.
“We’re committed to developing a diverse pipeline of future leaders who reflect the communities we serve.”
