Fincham has spent almost 30 years in the sector and is recognised for mentoring staff, creating career pathways and supporting employees to gain industry qualifications and progress through licence classes. His efforts have helped numerous drivers achieve their Class 5 licence while building long-term careers in the industry.

As Wellington branch manager at KAM Transport, Fincham has also championed initiatives aimed at attracting new entrants into the industry, including people facing barriers to employment. He has supported employees through licence progression, MITO training programmes, leadership development and other professional qualifications.

MITO manager corporate Brian Scott said Fincham’s commitment to developing people had made a lasting impact on both his employer and the wider industry.

“Paul’s dedication to developing people and creating opportunities for others is a great example of the impact employers can have on the future of our industries,” Scott says.

“Through his mentoring, encouragement and commitment to training, he has helped many people gain skills, qualifications and confidence in their careers. This award is a fitting recognition of his contribution to both KAM Transport and the wider transport sector.”

The award was presented at the Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand Road Freight Industry Awards, which recognise individuals and organisations making a significant contribution to the country’s road freight sector.
