Iveco New Zealand has launched its new S-Way and T-Way model ranges as part of a first product reveal in Australasia.

The models were put on show at the company’s south Auckland headquarters on February 23 with customers and media invited to check out the new line-up.

The S-Way features an entirely new cab with the manufacturer saying a strong focus on driver comfort went into the development of the new model, providing more space and enhanced visibility.

The new roof design, together with multiple features that reduce drag and improve aerodynamics, significantly improves fuel efficiency, Iveco says.

It features a  comfortable standing height of 2.15 meters and storage space includes 250 liters of capacity on the upper shelf, the centre console that can accommodate a thick A4 folder, a 100-litre refrigerator/freezer combination, and a new glove box comes with a 1.5-litre bottle holder and an exterior storage space with capacity of up to 380 litres.

The S-Way is also packed with all the latest safety features such as an electronic braking system with brake assistant, electronic stability program, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

It comes with a Euro 6 six-cylinder diesel injection engine ranging from 360hp to 570hp and up to 2500Nm of peak torque. Powered by the Cursor 9, Cursor 11 and Cursor 13 range of engines, ratings include 265kW (360hp)/1650Nm, 338kW (460hp)/2150Nm, and 425kW (570hp)/2500Nm. This is paired to a ZF HI-TRONIX 12-speed automatic transmission.

The S-Way will be available here in 4×2, 6×2, 6×4, 8×4 and 10×4 configurations.

Meanwhile, the T-Way will come in 4×4, 6×6, 6×4 and 8×4 configurations, with power options including the 268kW (360hp), 305kW (410hp), 335kW (450hp) and 380kW (510hp).

Speaking at the launch, Iveco Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael May says the brand has set new growth targets locally and the new S-Way and T-Way models will be a key part of that strategy.

Michael May

Last year, Iveco achieved record sales results with around 3000 units sold in both Australia and New Zealand. This includes around 1000 medium and heavy trucks and 2000 Daily van models.

The biggest challenge for the brand has been supply chain disruption, he says.

May also acknowledged the end of local manufacturing at its Dandenong plant in Melbourne but says this is a move that will bring our region up to speed with the latest technology and innovation coming out of Europe.

Commenting on the new S-Way, May reckons it’s “not only the best looking heavy truck but it’s really leading the way … it has a new level of safety, performance and comfort”.

“It has all of the latest adaptive cruse controls to help our drivers on a daily basis and emergency braking systems which in my view is one of the most important safety factors in a product like this,” he says.

Iveco NZ truck sales executive Pieter Theron introduced the new range and pointed out the “unique” 10×4 configuration which is a first for the brand here. His team has already placed the first two orders of the S-Way in 10×4, he says.

Theron says the team kept the S-Way range simple for the New Zealand market but he reckons it will be “a winner”.

As for the T-Way, Theron describes the model as “indestructible” and its predecessor, the Trakker, has proved a big hit in the South Island.

Theron says Iveco will be looking to secure more market share in the North Island with the new T-Way.

Meanwhile, Iveco NZ dealer principal Barry Woods says “a lot of time, effort and money” is being spent locally to get team members on the ground supporting customers.

Iveco NZ has also employed new technicians from overseas to join the service team. Woods also confirmed a new dealership agreement for the brand at the bottom end of the North Island.

Alongside the new trucks, customers will also get a total cost of ownership package to help them get on the road and do business.
