The July 2016 registration figure of 148 new Isuzu trucks beats the more than eight-year-old record of 145 new units registered in June 2008 just before the global financial crisis broke out.
Hino took second place in the new heavy truck and bus registrations with 79 units for July 2016.
But over halfway through the registration calendar year Isuzu Trucks looks set to retain its market leadership again for the 17th consecutive year, with 669 (unconfirmed) registrations year-to-date.
Isuzu Trucks recorded 1120 new truck registrations in 2015, and it appears the company could potentially surpass that record on its current performance.
“It was an excellent result for all three truck ranges, and we are more than happy with our performance in July,” says Isuzu Trucks New Zealand general manager Colin Muir.
Muir says there were around 70 Isuzu light-duty truck registrations, with the balance shared between it’s medium and heavy-duty models.
But he says looking at provisional figures the market seemed quite weak in July 2016, and he believes it could turn out be one of the lowest July months yet for new truck registrations.
Muir says the brand continues to enjoy strong wholesale as well as retail sales at this time.
“The market’s numbers in 2016 are certainly going backward from the previous year, but Isuzu Trucks is bucking that trend, and we don’t expect there will be any deterioration in our future forecast, as we will be delivering plenty more trucks, which already in the pipeline,” says Muir.
