Isuzu New Zealand is set to release new truck models after successful testing in local conditions.
This includes the CYZ460 and CYZ530 6x4s with the brand’s unique MJX 16-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) to complement the existing three 18-speed Eaton Road Ranger models.
The trucks were put through a recently completed research and development programme with findings from the tests incorporated into the new models.

Isuzu NZ general manager Colin Muir says the brand is always looking to innovate.
“Isuzu has been number one in the New Zealand truck market for 18 consecutive years and we’re committed to extending this remarkable run even further.
“The brand has made huge advancements in quality, reliability and now we’re striving for the next level in terms of local input into future product initiatives.
“The recent programme we participated in reinforces the Isuzu’s commitment to New Zealand, but is also evidence that we’re committed to ensuring new products are tested and tuned for local conditions,” Muir says.
The majority of testing for the trucks took place with Blenheim-based customer Gills Construction and Wadsco Trucks Isuzu.
On-board diagnostics were periodically downloaded and sent to Japan for forensic analysis.
A group of Isuzu heavy duty research and development engineers also visited the South Island test site to put a 6×4 AMT tipper on a high productivity motor vehicle (HPMV) sticker through its paces.

The team tested the truck in a variety of auto and manual modes, including steep hill starts and applying different driving techniques, to generate as much diagnostic data as possible.
As well as these two all-new heavy duty tipper variants, Isuzu is extending the popular 4×4 FTS800 range with Allison Auto options to complement the Isuzu manual transmission models, all of which will be available in the second half of 2018.
“These are models co-developed between Isuzu New Zealand and Isuzu Japan specifically for local utilisation and are only available for Isuzu customers in New Zealand,” Muir says.
“It’s heartening that Isuzu is prepared to develop models exclusively for New Zealand, especially considering our relatively low volumes compared with other markets.
“It illustrates the very positive nature of the relationship between the Isuzu factory and Isuzu in New Zealand,” he says.
