A week of meetings for the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association, has seen its North Island and South Island branches discuss current issues as well as re-elect members to its branch and national board.

The North Island branch, based in Auckland, saw Graeme Macdonald re-elected as chairman with Frank Willet as vice chairman.

The South Island branch saw Lloyd Wilson re-elected chairman with Nick Owens as vice chairman.

IMVIA chief executive David Vinsen told AutoTalk: “The organisation continues to grow and is in good shape as we have been able to successfully re-position ourselves, thanks to the strong endorsement from our members.”

Vinsen notes: “In particular the Auckland branch meeting was a success thanks to key members and sponsors attending, with four out of the six sponsors and two major players taking part in active discussions on the day.”

Vinsen also notes that the organisation is in good shape financially, with more than $800,000 in the bank.

Both the Auckland and Christchurch meetings congratulated the IMVIA national executive on the way the organisation has been able to re-position itself after some tough times in the past when members not always saw eye-to-eye.

The meetings also praised the executive on the successful running of a gala celebration of the 25th anniversary of the used vehicle import trade, at an event held late last year, which was underwritten by Auto Media Group, publishers of AutoTalk.

“We have received strong endorsements from both branches and we will continue to work actively and progress talks with the New Zealand government on a number of issues, including end-of-life tyre recycling and electric vehicle regulations.” Vinsen concludes.
