The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has elected Korean national Lim Ki-Tack as its new secretary-general, replacing Koji Sekimizu.
International transport workers federation (ITF) president Paddy Crumlin says the job of the secretary-general is a profoundly important one.
“We are glad that Mr Lim will bring to to the role his personal experience of the Port of Busan, and the working lives of those who work there – as evidenced by the respect in which he is held by its trade unionists,” says Crumlin.
“Mr Lim’s experience of safety issues will also be important and we trust he will remember the human element – the seafarers – in every IMO technical discussion.”
“We congratulate Lim Ki-Tack on his election, and offer our best wishes to the outgoing secretary-general, Koji Sekimizu,” he says.
