Infrastructure service specialists City Care have taken delivery of the 49th and 50th Hyundai trucks to be registered in New Zealand, marking a milestone for the Korean brand whose first truck arrived in 2009.
Two Hyundai trucks were registered that year, followed by five in 2010, 23 in 2011 and 21 up to the end of May this year.
Sixteen more trucks are currently being built, both here in New Zealand and in Korea, and will be on our roads soon.
“City Care is experiencing huge growth and our fleet purchases need to cater to this demand. Hyundai is certainly fulfilling this requirement,” says Onno Mulder, City Care chief executive.
“We have a strong association with the Commercial Vehicle Centre (CVC), the Hyundai dealership in Christchurch. City Care is proud of our association with both Hyundai and CVC, and our purchasing has reflected this.
“Our fleet includes eight new Hyundai trucks, ideal for our traffic management requirements or as maintenance trucks. They are lightweight, competitively priced and reliable. Hyundai vans, SUVs and wagons are also represented in our passenger fleet.”
Hyundai have produced left hand drive commercial vehicles since 1988, but it wasn’t until 2009 that they began to manufacture right hand drive variants.
Three main variants currently available: The HD45 (4500kg GVW), the HD65 (6500kg GVW) and the HD75 (7500kg GVW).
Each of these variants is available in a selection of wheelbases and with either the standard day or the super cab, which has an additional 300mm of space behind the driver’s seat for additional storage.
The 7-man crew cab is now also available on the HD65 and HD75.
Of the 51 units currently working on New Zealand roads, over half are HD75s. Along with the box bodies, curtainsiders and flat decks, the trade can expect to see Eutectic freezer units, refrigerated bodies, gas bottle cages, skip trucks and traffic management units.
