Hyundai New Zealand revealed it’s forthcoming new light-medium duty Mighty truck range at Mystery Creek yesterday, it has also confirmed it is committing to bringing its Xcient heavy-duty truck to New Zealand.
The Mighty range from Hyundai will launch in the fourth quarter of 2016, and Hyundai New Zealand general manager Andy Sinclair says it will be price competitive with the Japanese marque trucks.
Sinclair says the Mighty is an all new vehicle designed from the ground up, and indeed the new look has been well received so far.
“The previous generation truck has been reliable, and while the styling is not to everyone’s taste, the customers certainly like driving them,” says Sinclair.
There are three styles of cab available for the new Hyundai Mighty being day cab, super cab, and a double cab.
Chassis variants on offer include 6-tonne GVM, 6.5-tonne GVM, 7.8-tonne GVM, and 8.2-tonne GVM.
An extra long chassis is also available in some models.

The Euro 5 Mighty does not require AdBlue to meet emissions standards, and New Zealand-bound trucks will have disc brakes all round as well as a 6-speed transmission and ESC fitted standard.
Hyundai Motors is also preparing to enter the heavy-duty truck segment with the Xcient, and will have an evaluation vehicle landed in New Zealand towards the end of the year.
“It will be a Euro 5 truck with more than 500 horsepower, and we are evaluating which is the best transmission to offer,” says Sinclair.
“We are committed to bringing the Xcient to market, but we want to do it properly, and we want to get the specification right, it’s a highly technical area, especially around HPMV,” he says.
