New registrations of light commercial vehicles for the month of March 2015 were 436 units higher than for March 2014, and the highest March results recorded since 1982 reports the Motor Industry Association (MIA).
Toyota was the commercial market leader for the month of March with 22% market share (818 units), followed by Ford with 17% (629 units) and Holden third with 10% market share (357 units).
The Toyota Hilux was once again the monthly top selling light commercial model for March with 15% market share (548 units) followed by the Ford Ranger with 14% (514 units) and the Holden Colorado with 9% market share (346 units).
Year to date, the Ford Ranger is the top selling light commercial model with 14% market share (1,310 units) closely followed by the Toyota Hilux also on 14 % market share (1,298).
The sale of sports utility vehicles segment remains dominant, reflecting international trends, with 31% market share for the month of February followed by pick-ups/chassis-cabs with 22% market share and light passenger cars on 15%.
“New vehicle registrations for 2015 continue to reflect a strong economy, which is reflected in the continuing strong performance in the light commercial vehicle sector,” says MIA chief executive officer David Crawford.
