The two brands stepped in as others dropped their sponsorship following the exit of planned contender Hughie Fury.

Haval, the top-selling SUV brand in China, will officially go on sale in August.

HAVAL New Zealand chief marketing officer Tim Smith says it was a red-letter day for the company.

“We are excited to be in the corner supporting New Zealand champion Joseph Parker, and be a part of history as the country hosts its first world heavyweight title event.

“The SUV market continues to grow in New Zealand, and we are confident the HAVAL range can be a key player here.

“While other manufacturers are spreading their talents across a wide range of vehicles and platforms, Haval is focusing and specialising. Specialising in the fastest growing automotive sector in the world,” says Smith.

HAVAL will launch the compact H2 and medium-sized H6 models. The all-new 7-seat H7 will follow shortly after.
It says it is negotiating with dealers and can’t yet confirm how big its sales and service network will be.

The factory-owned Great Wall operation needed positive news this week, following a two-star ANCAP result for its Steed ute.
