Hall’s Group is expanding its national cold chain logistics footprint with a major new investment in a cross-dock and storage facility in the Waikato, marking another step in its strategic network growth.
The new development will be located in Horotiu, in the same business park as industry heavyweights AFFCO and Open Country Dairy.
“Last year we opened our new Longburn Transport site, which, alongside Hall’s Storage and Manawatu Inland Port, created a logistics hub servicing the Lower North Island and beyond,” Hall’s Group chief executive Gareth McFarlane says.
“Today we are pleased to announce that we are making another multi-million-dollar investment in a new transport cross-dock and storage facility in Horotiu.”
McFarlane says the decision to build in Horotiu was underpinned by the site’s strategic location in New Zealand’s “golden triangle”— the high-growth economic corridor between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga servicing around 42% of the country’s freight and over 45% of its population.
“This region is characterised by strong transport and communication infrastructure, including port facilities and road networks, increasing Hall’s national distribution network,” McFarlane says.
The investment is part of a broader growth strategy that includes the addition of new trucks and trailers to strengthen Hall’s position in the cold chain sector.
In 2023, it rolled out a fleet upgrade of more than 100 trucks which included modern DAF and Scania units geared for maximum driver comfort, industry-leading safety technology emission reductions with Euro 6 engines.
The new Horotiu build will roll out in two stages, beginning with the transport facility (Phase 1), followed by a dedicated storage facility (Phase 2).
