An Invercargill truck museum is to become a showcase for people who have made significant contributions to New Zealand’s road transport industry, with the establishment of a hall of fame.
NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame event manager Sally McDonald says the project was the brainchild of Scott and Joc O’Donnell, of the HW Richardson Group.
They wanted to establish something along the same lines as a similar hall in Australia.
An event launching the hall of fame would be held at the Bill Richardson Truck Museum in September, she says.
A special area has been set up to house photographs and information about the background of inductees.
Six people would be inducted into the hall of fame each year, following nominations from regional transport associations.
The project has been in development since January and feedback from the transport industry has so far been extremely positive, Ms McDonald says.
