Truck drivers illegally creating noise by using their exhaust brakes on the Auckland motorway southbound off ramp at Gillies Avenue will be targeted by new technology to make them stop.
With co-operation from the government, The New Zealand Transport Agency is installing a noise camera on the off ramp to record such incidents in response to complaints from residents.
Epsom MP David Seymour and transport minister Simon Bridges unveiled the new off ramp noise camera at a ceremony on January 26.
“After conversations with residents near the off-ramp, it’s clear that noise from truck brakes has a real effect on quality of life,” says Seymour.
“Credit for this action lies with the residents who raised this issue and who assisted me in working with NZTA and the transport minister,” he says.
“It’s fantastic to see this work produce a result which in the long term will encourage truck drivers to comply with regulations against brake noise on what is primarily a residential street,” says Seymour.
