Fuso New Zealand has taken the title of the country’s number one truck brand for the second year running.
For the 2022 calendar year, the brand registered a total of 1292 new trucks and buses. This included the sale of 1250 trucks representing 20.7% market share. The addition of a further 42 bus sales completed the record volume of registrations for the brand.
This follows its number one position which it achieved in 2021, knocking Isuzu Trucks NZ off the perch which previously held the title for 21 straight years.
In March, Fuso confirmed it was boosting its stock levels to facilitate customer orders through 2022.
At the time, it confirmed that it had 1250 new units across its light, medium and heavy-duty truck ranges arriving into the country.
The total order exceeded the 1096 registered units that saw Fuso lead NZ truck and bus sales in 2021.
Fuso said the increased stock levels reflected the high level of customer demand anticipated throughout the year.
It also saw the brand double down on its stock of heavy-duty Shogun models, bringing in more than 200 units and reporting strong customer interest with the 510hp range.
The result saw a 70% year-on-year increase in sales of the Shogun in the heavy-duty segment. Meanwhile, the brand’s light-duty electric eCanter leads the way as New Zealand’s most popular all-electric light truck.

Reflecting on the result, Fuso NZ managing director Kurtis Andrews paid tribute to the loyalty of customers and to the passion and commitment of the Fuso team and its dealerships across the country. The result was achieved despite significant global and local challenges, he says.
“We are extremely grateful to our customers and humbled by the ongoing trust placed in our brand and our people. Every day, I see our fantastic teams at head office and in dealerships across the country working hard to deliver on that trust.
“It is through our commitment and our actions that we show up for our customers every day and for the road ahead. This is what great partnerships are all about and what we mean by ‘we look after our own’.
“The past few years have presented challenges most of us have never seen before – and we’ve faced them together. With that in mind, it is hugely satisfying that Fuso’s results reflect the efforts and successes of our customers in helping to keep New Zealand moving through these challenges.
“We hope that everyone enjoyed a summer holiday to relax, have some fun and recharged the batteries. We very much look forward to continuing to support the industry and to partnering with you through 2023,” Andrews says.
