Fruehauf NZ has broken ground on a new 7,500-square-metre, purpose-built manufacturing facility in Palmerston North to meet growing demand in New Zealand’s road transport industry.
The new site will significantly boost production capacity and improve sustainability, with advanced manufacturing technology, two new 25-metre bake ovens, and a fully enclosed internal sandblasting shop among the planned upgrades.
Additional features include six drive-through repair bays, new staff amenities, improved workflow design, and a solar-powered paint shop to increase energy efficiency. The company also plans to reduce waste through its supply chain and strengthen overall sustainability performance.
Managing director Jeff Mear says the investment reflects both Fruehauf’s expansion and its long-term commitment to innovation.
“After 55 years on our current site, it was clear we had outgrown the facility. It was no longer viable to keep pace with industry demand,” Mear says. “We’re incredibly excited to see this project underway and anticipate completion before April 2027.”
The company says the development marks a significant step forward for New Zealand manufacturing, reinforcing Fruehauf’s focus on quality, sustainability, and industry leadership.
