KiwiRail chair Suzanne Tindal says Evans’ appointment reflects the value of his extensive transport industry experience.

“That experience will help guide KiwiRail in optimising supply chains and bringing a customer-centric view to its operations,” she says.

Evans began his career at Freightways in 1980 before spending 34 years at Mainfreight, including serving as country manager of Mainfreight New Zealand until 2021.

He was chief executive of Move Logistics from February 2023 until August 2024 before becoming a director of Hilton Haulage Limited Partnership.

Tindal says the board looks forward to working with Evans.

“Strong governance is essential to delivering the improved performance, value for money and sound stewardship of public assets that is expected of the company,” she says.
