He has lead the improvement of codes and standards for heavy vehicle certification and was a founding member of the Log Transport Safety Council.

According to IPENZ, Taylor has previously received a New Zealand Engineering Excellence Award for designing an innovative frame attachment for holding logs on trucks – known as log bolsters, which have a very good safety record.

He is personally credited with having designed, inspected, and certified the manufacture of approximately one third of the logging trailers in the New Zealand fleet.

Taylor was presented with his fellowship at the IPENZ awards dinner held at The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.
