Ford Australia has issued a recall for certain Ranger utes and Everest large SUVs built on the Ranger platform.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety website reports a steering fault in both models, which relates to welding of steering components.

According to the recall, “the intermediate steering shaft weld may not meet required specifications, which may cause the steering column to detach from the steering gear.”

The welding fault affects 81 Everests built from March 16 to April 6, 2018, and 207 Rangers built from March 18, to April 11, 2018.

Owners are urged to contact their nearest Authorised Ford Dealer who will perform an inspection of the steering components and “replace the shaft if the weld fails the inspection”.

AutoTalk Australia has contact Ford Australia to establish if the welding fault was detected internally or was the result of on-road customer or dealer reporting.
