The models include the Transit Custom Sport Van and Transit Custom Double Cab-in-Van which are now arriving at dealerships around the country.

Transit Custom’s advanced common-rail turbo-diesel engine meets Euro 6.2 emissions standards, while delivering 125kW of power — 30% more than the prior model. It also comes with 390Nm of torque and an upgraded 2-litre EcoBlue powertrain.

The sport model adds even more performance with 136kW of power and 405Nm of torque – available exclusively as a six-speed automatic – in addition to its exterior and equipment upgrades.

Both new models share the Custom range safety standards which includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

In addition to fresh new body styles and powertrain upgrades, the Transit includes a full suite of driver assist technologies as standard, building on its five-star ANCAP rating.

“We’ve learned from the success of the Ford Ranger that you need to always be improving to stay ahead,” Ford New Zealand light commercial marketing manager David Herbert says.

“While Ford is the number one light commercial brand in New Zealand, competition remains fierce, so we are going to keep raising the bar with new vans like the Transit Sport and Transit Double Cab.

“We know buyers are looking for even greater versatility and more choice when it comes to their work van.

“With AEB as standard on every model, and the new Transit Custom Sport and Double Cab-in-Van body styles, we’ve covered practicality and personality for customers looking for capability and character,” Herbert says.

The latest Transit Custom builds on previous updates that have included an automatic transmission and SYNC 3 with a full-colour 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto1 smartphone capability.

In addition, Transit Custom continues to offer 30,000km or one-year service intervals as well as a five-year or 150,000 kilometre warranty as standard.

Transit Custom owners can also receive the Ford Service Benefits programme including service loan car, roadside assistance and sat-nav updates.
