Foodstuffs North Island fleet compliance health and safety manager Blair Inglis has been awarded top honour for developing a leading transport programme.
Inglis won the ‘Courageous’ prize at the cooperative’s inaugural Excellence Awards, held at SkyCity Auckland Convention Centre on November 17.
Inglis has consistently pushed for higher safety standards by transport teams and carrier partners on the road and at supply chain sites.
He led implementation of the Safer Speeds Programme, for which Foodstuffs North Island came first out of 40 fleets nationwide and has sought to improve driver safety with measures including online induction, in-cab cameras, electronic logbooks, and driver simulation education.
Foodstuffs North Island chief executive Chris Quin says the improvements and focus on safety pushed through by Inglis have been “inspiring”.
“Thanks to the effort and energy that Blair has put into managing and reducing fleet accidents, we now have one of the best transport fleets in New Zealand in terms of safety.
“In particular, Blair’s focus on reducing speed events through technology and intense management has driven a massive change in driver attitude and performance,” Quin says.
