Two Queenstown volunteer firefighters lost their Ford Ranger as a result of the Macauley Ford fire in Frankton.

Gabbie Mullally sent husband Adam a text joking his 2013 Ranger was on fire as they were taking separate fire engines to the blaze, then both realised it was being serviced in the burning building’s workshop, Stuff reports.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, Adam Mullaly found his ute was not toast as expected but had been severely water damaged as its windows were down.

The Mullalys are talking with insurers.

The May 20 fire saw one worker sustain burns to his hands and arms.

While not considered suspicious, the fire remains under investigation.
