Fiat and Renault have announced an industrial partnership, which will see both brands jointly develop a new light commercial vehicle, due to be released in the second quarter of 2016.
Fiat which owns Chrysler, says the vehicle bearing the Fiat Professional brand would be an Italian design, built on a Renault platform at a plant in France.
It is the first industrial partnership between Fiat and Renault, two of Europe’s largest mass-market car makers.
Fiat and Chrysler chief executive officer, Sergio Marchionne, is finalising the merger with Chrysler, which Fiat took over five years ago.
A key aim of Marchionne at Fiat has been to seek out limited partnerships to share costs on vehicle development, while retaining control of distinctive design elements.
