There will be a new and safer arrangement for westbound drivers leaving Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) to join Great North Road at Waterview from Monday, April 4,
The New Zealand Transport Agency is opening an extended westbound exit lane, by adding another 215m to it. Hence, the reconfigured westbound exit lane is now approximately 830m long.
It will start further east towards St Lukes, and there is more separation between it and the adjacent motorway lanes.
“This is one of the busiest interchanges on the Auckland Motorway network, and the extension will help keep traffic flowing by giving drivers more room to leave the Northwestern’s main traffic lanes if they want to exit at Great North Road,” says NZTA highway manager Brett Gliddon.
Great North Road is one of the busiest arterial roads in New Zealand and is used by an average 55,000 vehicles every day.
The extension to the exit lane is part of the Transport Agency’s Waterview Connection project.
