EROAD recently attended the International Road Federation (IRF) conference in Las Vegas which covered the key topic of transport infrastructure funding.
Senior transport industry specialists from over 50 countries gathered for the event on November 22.
It helped the sector identify common challenges, learn of policy developments and presented technology opportunities for more effective and efficient road funding sources.
Technology-enabled funding models were considered and the approach implemented in New Zealand caught the interest of attendees.
EROAD senior vice president Nina Elter was invited to present an overview of the approach taken and the system developed.
In recognition of EROAD’s expertise in providing solutions to global transportation problems, Elter was appointed as a non-executive director on the IRF board.
The IRF committee will work on best practice and learnings on road user charging which will be shared amongst its 118 member countries.
EROAD chief executive Steven Newman says a lot of progress is being made globally with the technology.
“We’re obviously delighted that our technology is receiving such prestigious attention. There’s quite a bit of innovative technology that is now spreading out from New Zealand onto the global stage,” he says.
EROAD also won the IRF’s 2019 Global Road Achievement Award for technology, equipment and manufacturing at the event.
Elter accepted the award and says it acknowledges the company’s core purpose of creating safer, more productive roads.
