Zero Emission Vehicles New Zealand says its rigid chassis electric truck – which was designed and manufactured locally – costs only one third, on average, of an equivalent diesel vehicle to run.
A six month snapshot of operations shows the ZEV 9000 rubbish compactor truck is proving its worth through reduced operating and maintenance costs.
The company says it travelled 16,041 kms, recovered 18.24% of its energy from regenerative braking and averaged 0.58 kWh per km and required 2% of its total energy to operate the compactor.
The ZEV 9000 can travel up to 150km under normal operating conditions on a single charge, and over 200km with opportunity charging.
As of March 10, 2015, it has travelled 40,071km and the battery pack has delivered up 27,693 kWh of energy (27.693 MWh).
