An Eastland Port worker was killed after being hit by a falling log from a shuttle truck.
Twenty-nine-year-old Shannon Brooke Rangihuna of Gisborne was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday morning by St John ambulance officers, the NZ Herald reports.
Rangihuna worked for log marshalling and stevedoring company ISO.
Eastland Port general manager Andrew Gaddum told the NZ Herald the port remained closed for the rest of the day “to allow colleagues time to reflect and grieve”.
WorkSafe New Zealand is conducting an inquiry into the accident.
