Waikato District Alliance, a joint venture between Downer New Zealand and Waikato District Council, has won a best practice award for its work on the Rotowaro culvert replacement.
The best practice awards ceremony was held at Waikato Regional Council’s Hamilton offices earlier this month.
Alliance was declared joint winner with Seay Earthmovers in the small site category for its proactive approach to erosion and sediment control on “difficult and rapidly changing sites during the construction of culvert structures”.
The regional council also congratulated Alliance on its proactive approach, good communication and minimal environmental impact during construction.
The project was pulled together very quickly in April due to key work needed on the culvert. The tricky environment and the fact Rotowaro Rd is a rural road meant the local community had to take a lengthy detour.
The council says the number of entries and nominations this year reflect the wide range of different projects being undertaken across the Waikato region from small-scale permitted activities to large-scale road projects as well as the high level of environmental awareness.
