A 43-tonne truck and trailer unit carrying a load of wool bales rolled onto its side on State Highway One on the Kapiti Coast, near Paraparaumu earlier today.
A crane will be brought in to clear the scene reports The Dominion Post.
NZTA reported that the truck and trailer unit rolled in the northbound lane at the Otaihanga roundabout, north of the Paraparaumu town centre. Police say the accident appeared to be have been due to speed, nobody was injured and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Sergeant Mike George said the driver noticed the rear wheels coming off the road as he came around lane one on the roundabout, he tried to correct but as he continued to do so, the truck rolled onto its side.
The container carrier came to rest on the roadside, clear of both lanes.
George says the police serious crash unit will be investigating. The road was down to one lane and traffic was getting through.
When the crane arrives to clear the truck and trailer unit, the lane will be closed fully and north and south bound traffic would be directed through the southbound side of the roundabout.
It is hoped the truck would be cleared before the worst of the daily rush hour traffic hits.
